IBD note: The $500 bonus consists of $250 sign-up bonus + $250 card usage bonus. You actually get points (50000 in total) that can be exchanged for gift certificates with total value of $500. See an example here. I do not count the 10K point card renewal bonus because it will be "eaten" by the annual fee. But you do not pay the annual fee during the first year (see more detailes below).


IBD warning (2/23/07): according to this post, the 20,000-point BZZ offer was meant for the first 500 BZZ agents and people they refer. My guess is that number of the applicants, who used this offer, has already exceeded 500 because it has been around for quite a while. AmEx may or may not be willing to give the bonus beyond this limit. So.. proceed with a caution. You can still get 30000 points (5000 + 5000 + 20000, see below) during the first year without the BZZ offer.

I went to the sign up page but the $250 cash was not mentioned. Did I just miss it? Please tell me where it is because i want to apply by phone & when I speak with the Customer Service person, I want to be very clear/specific because many of these reps don't really know much about various bonus offers. Thanks in advance.

There is no $250 cash bonus. You will supposedly get 20,000 bonus points as a special Bzz (whatever it means) offer + regular 5,000 bonus points after the first purchase. You can later exchange the points for gift certificates with total value of $250. See an example of available gift cards here.

You must apply via this promotional link. It worked for me. I use IE 7. If you use Firefox, you may need to click on "Learn More" link on the application page to see bonus details.
