1) The annual fees for the Rewards Plus Gold Card and Additional Rewards Plus Gold Cards will be waived for the first year. Thereafter, the annual fee will be $150 for the Basic Card, with up to five Additional Cards included at no extra charge.

2) 10,000 Membership Rewards points will be credited to your Membership Rewards account 6-8 weeks after your first purchase. Bonus Points may be redeemed for a $100 Gift Card upon point credit at participating retailers.

You have to spend at least $1,000 within 3 months to get $100 Gift Card.
There are some other cards such as CitiCard, you do not need to spend so much money to get $100 Gift Card. But if you have gas or heating bills to pay especially in the winter, I think it is good to apply for the American Express card, otherwise, it is not worthy.
